Why Should I Green Screen With My Students? |
What Should I Use As A Green Screen? |
* Learning to project voice * Fluency |
You can go to a fabric store and buy bright green cloth to hang in your classroom or you can buy a Yoostar off of Ebay or Amazon. You can go to tubetape.com to buy a real expensive one too. It depends on the quality and how much you want to spend. If you want to start of inexpensive, just to make sure your students like it, go to the dollar store and buy a green plastic table cloth.

The easiest way to get started in anyone’s classroom is to do a “This day in History” (students can then do the day they were born”). History.com is a great resource for information and discoveryeducation.com is a great resource for videos and information, but it’s a subscription service. "This Day in History" is a great way to find easy information and it’s always relevant. You, as the teacher can set up the backgrounds which will give the students instant success. Eventually the students will do the set up process, depending on grade level. Always start of simple.

Lighting is essential to the green screen effect. If you have to many shadows, then you will have spots that still show up green. If you want perfection, you need to have a thicker screen and better lighting.
Distance is another factor. Standing too close to the green screen produces shadows and can cause the screen to flutter. I have my students stand or sit 2-3 feet away from the green screen. It still has some choppy spots, but what point do you want to get across? I always say to my students that it isn’t about the technology, it’s about the content and having fun with it. |
